WATER DAMAGE

Causes of Water Damage

It can take fewer than seconds for water damage to cause hours, weeks, or even months of restoration. One of the most effective ways to prevent water damage is to understand and recognize the causes.

The four most common causes of water damage are:

  • Bursting or leaky pipes

  • A leaky roof due to rainfall

  • Plumbing system issues

  • Air conditioning condensation

Signs of Water Damage

The obvious signs of water damage are puddles or pools of standing water or the sound of running water coming from somewhere in your home. However, there are other indications that can help you identify if you are facing a water damage issue as well.

Signs that you are experiencing water damage somewhere in your home or office:

  • Visible stains or discoloration in your ceilings, floors, or walls

  • A musty or mildewy odor

  • A higher than usual water bill

Risks of Water Damage

If water damage is not properly taken care of, it may become a greater problem to your home and even your health.

Standing water unresolved can become a breeding ground for microorganisms that host a multitude of viruses and bacteria. These viruses and bacteria can become airborne in your home or office.

Another pressing risk is mold growth, which can start to grow within hours of exposure to water and continue to exist long after the water is gone.
